THE STORY OF
‘THE POACHERS’

Bottesford Town Football Club, established in 1974, embodies a rich history of success and community engagement. Originally competing in the Lincolnshire League, we swiftly ascended to prominence, securing numerous cup victories and three consecutive Lincolnshire League titles during the early ’90s. Since then, we have continuously evolved, transitioning to higher leagues and developed our facilities , ensuring a bright and promising future for our club and the community.

Establishment:

1974

The club were established in 1974 and joined the Lincolnshire League. The club initially played on pitches at the Frederick Gough School in Scunthorpe.

Settlement:

1983

The club moved to Birch Park in 1983 when a lease on the site was granted by the local council. It currently has a capacity of 1,000, of which 90 is seated and 300 covered.

Achievements and Progression:

Early ’90s: Notable success, clinching multiple Cup victories and the Lincolnshire League title.

2000: Joined the Central Midlands League; promotion to Northern Counties East Football League Division 1 in 2005.

2016: Secured Premier League promotion after a ‘play-off’ victory, maintaining top-tier status for 5 consecutive seasons.

Diverse Team Structure:

Hosts 25 teams, encompassing boys’ and girls’ mini-soccer, 11-a-side Sunday league, Youth football, and a Development Squad.

Introduction of a Veterans team and DSActive team, fostering inclusivity and community engagement.

Charter Standard Recognition:

Earned FA Charter Standard Community Club status in 2003, a pioneering achievement.

Recognised as the FA Charter Standard Club of the year by the Lincolnshire Football Association in 2009.

Facility Enhancements and Future Plans:

Continual investment in facilities, including modern changing rooms and LED floodlights.
Inauguration of the £1.5m Barrett Steel Stadium in July 2023, supported by various funding sources.

Ongoing development plans for the Bottesford Sports Hall, underlining a commitment to community sports infrastructure.
